Key is retroactively the umbrella name for all my projects, and the official moniker for most new productions beginning with Candor. Over the years, I have consistently said that ‘I don’t write lyrics’ or songs in the traditional sense. But it turned out that this wasn’t true, as upon reflection and perusal of my unfinished projects, I have, in fact, written many songs which contain lyrics.
‘Key’ was a name given to me by a friend who simply decided one day that this was what she wanted to call me. Presumably, this had something to do with the instrument I play, piano. I accepted this at the time, but then came to really identify with it, and so it became something I actively embraced — so much so that I legally changed my last name to it.
