‘Showing Me’ <\/strong>originally began life as an instrumental demo track called ‘Agape<\/strong>‘. I was writing a lot of sad-sounding music at the time (2021) and I intentionally wanted to compose something that sounded the opposite. I was not certain that Agape <\/strong>fit the bill, but I did like the the beat as it was inspired by a lot of melodic house I was into at that time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In 2022, I began the vocal project for Key<\/a><\/strong>, wherein I was purposefully putting together an album of lyrical songs from my pas repertoire. Agape <\/strong>was originally slated for a different side project, but I randomly pulled it out one day and tried to see if I could hash out a melody for it. I was able to come up with something I liked and the natural progression from there was to write lyrics. That is something I do rarely, but I had a lot of inspiration to draw upon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In 2022 my marriage fell apart and I had written some songs to that subject matter (which are also on Candor<\/a><\/strong>). But at the end of the year, I had met someone very special and who epitomized the opposite of what I was experiencing up to that point. So the lyrics are very mush inspired by these new feelings and ‘Showing Me’ <\/strong>is very much a love song.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Being in love with someone is of course the underlying idea behind the lyrics. But one notices that the words ‘I love you’ are no where in the song. They are certainly implied (and it was my intention to have those words in the song) — but the dialog of the song stops just short of saying it. One of things I have noticed in beginning a new relationship (after several bad ones) is that a person can be in love with love<\/em>, and that can often work against you. One can miss feeling love so much that they make mistakes. So the lyrics never say ‘I love you’ because of the fear of that. But at the same time, the person is absolutely feeling it, and they are looking for the perfect moment when everything is right and the fear is gone, where they can be comfortably vulnerable to say the words.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Showing Me<\/strong> was released as a single on Valentine’s Day 2023, but the album version is a different mix.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
