It’s 1996, and yours truly has given up on dance music. Born Slippy still had still not made its way to me yet, because I hadn’t seen Trainspotting. I was not buying a lot of records because I hadn’t heard anything that grabbed me. Everything sounded repetitive.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Then I heard Faithless’ Insomnia somewhere and instantly I was going, “What fucking brilliance is this?” I literally stopped what I was doing and immediately went to the record store to buy this CD. They had rekindled <\/a>my affinity for club music.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Faithless proved to be one of the seminal club acts of the 90’s and 2000s. The amazing compositions of Rollo and Sister Bliss combined with the deep and thought provoking lyrics and rhyming of Maxwell Fraser aka Maxi Jazz. A few days ago we lost Maxwell and the scene is still hurting. But I thought the best way to tribute him was to record this cover, which I spent all Christmas Day programming.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Everything here, with the exception of a couple of small samples, is sequenced from scratch. I recorded a new piano part and did the vocals myself. Included are both sets of lyrics by Maxi Jazz, contained on both the 7″ and 12″ versions of the song, but they never appeared in the same track together.<\/p>\n\n\n
