“Music does a lot of things for a lot of people. It’s transporting, for sure. It can take you right back, years back, to the very moment certain things happened in your life. It’s uplifting, it’s encouraging, it’s strengthening.” — Aretha Franklin

ETHERREAL

2001 Collection

I was essentially ready to hang up the EtherReal moniker by the end of 2000 (this was prior to the release of CTRL). So I decided I would try one last attempt to promote myself based on my back catalog and move forward.

I curated several tracks and edited some other ones and put together some album art. Finally, I had a CD-lengths worth of my best and favourite material which I promptly did nothing with. (LOL)

But what did come out of this venture was a new remix of Digital. And this isn’t bad.

I’m not entirely sure that the tracklisting below is what was original on offer, but it’s pretty close (except for the inclusion of Driving. But this is a vanity post, so I can pretty much add whatever and rewrite history as I choose).

Design

The 2001 cover was a recreation of Sony speaker that I liked the look of, completely recreated in Photoshop.

Collexion also became something else later on. In about 2008, I had this idea to ‘commercialize’ all the music I had made up to this date and make a DVD of audio of all my songs. Mainly this was just to give to friends. But I called it Collexion. The photo was taken on an intercity train.

I made a few of these and handed them out. But mainly this was a vanity project.

I later revised this design idea to create a release that ultimately ended in the EP called Excursion.

Bonus: EtherReal Compiled

Just after I finished CTRL as EtherReal, I did a one-off audio CDr of the tracks I liked the best and called it Compiled. There is not much more to say about this, except for the fact that I really enjoyed using my flatbed scanner to take pictures of 3D objects and using them as part of the design.
