“Music does a lot of things for a lot of people. It’s transporting, for sure. It can take you right back, years back, to the very moment certain things happened in your life. It’s uplifting, it’s encouraging, it’s strengthening.” — Aretha Franklin

It would be very difficult (and presumptuous) to assume that I could improve on the versions of Blue Monday contained on the best selling 12″ of all time from 1983, but having come across some very good quality multitrack of the song, I decided to mess around with it. The result is an alternate arrangement which I feel is a good compantion to New Order’s version. And while doing the 12″ remix, it would not be complete without homage to the flipside, The Beach.

For this remix, and as per the usual TruStyle remix MO, nothing extra was added — although I did resequence the Oberheim DMX snare and kick using cleaner samples than the original. I felt that the instrumental lead-in to the signature percussion intro really adds a bit of depth to the song.

And while undertaking this project, it would not be complete without homage to the flipside, The Beach.
